Think Pink: Breast Cancer Awareness Month

"Now, I wouldn't presume to tell a woman what a woman oughtta think, But tell her if she's gotta think: think pink—!" As Maggie Prescott said in "Funny Face", think pink! October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month but just because October is almost over, doesn't mean the awareness about it should go away.

I wanted to start with some facts from a great website called "Worldwide Breast Cancer". Breast cancer is the most common cancer in women worldwide and is also the main cause of death from cancer among women globally.

"However, one-third of these cancer deaths could be decreased if detected and treated early. In a worldwide context, this means nearly 400,000 lives could be saved every year." How amazing is this when you think about it! Although cancer is an extremely scary thing, precaution and screening can help to save lives. Think about this not only for yourself but for the people around you. Is there someone you know of who is at the age to get a mammogram but is putting it off? This is the case for so many people and those people need the encouragement and reassurance that the earlier they begin these screenings the better! I absolutely love the "worldwide breast cancer" website, and highly recommend taking a look at it! They grow through all the steps in a way that is understandable and innovative, a typical medical website this is not!

October is such a great time to raise awareness though and to me it seems like now, more than ever, so many brands, companies, and teams are doing their part to raise money and awareness for such an important cause. Paul Mitchell is a great example, it's cheeky but it gets the point across:)

I can say from first hand experience that you never think your life will be affected in some way by breast cancer. You hear about it on the news or see people who are fighting it and who have passed and you feel sorry for them, but never imagine it will affect you. I thought like that for the longest time but I turned out to be wrong. I know someone who has lost their mom to breast cancer. It turned out that a few years later, my mom was diagnosed. At first I was in shock and a bit of denial at first but I was mainly just scared. During that time I learned that the only thing you can do it be positive and me and my family and friends were. She is now a survivor and I am extremely thankful. After that I feel like I take the idea of breast cancer more seriously and especially awareness about it. So when October comes around I always try to think of something I can do to help raise awareness. Whether it be wearing pink everyday (I haven't done this, but I have seen it done!), taking a picture of something pink everyday on instargram or just talking to friends and family about the cause. So many stores and restaurants participate, creating a great way to bring up the conversation about being checked out and such. So even though October is almost over, don't let the awareness stop being spread! Honor those who have passed, celebrate the survivors, and raise awareness!

I hope this post was helpful in some way! Please share this also! The more people who are aware the better! "Let's fight Breast Cancer, starting with you!" -Worldwide Breast Cancer

Elf

I love drugstore makeup for two reasons, it's affordable and the quality can be just as good as the high end makeup brands. Elf is one of those brands. It is super affordable and the quality of their products is great! I'm going to show the elf products that I own and love, starting with brushes and then going on to products for eyes, lips, face, and nails!

Move!

This post is a bit spur of the moment but I have just seen the music video for a song called "Move" by Little Mix and I am in love with the styling!! The makeup, the hair, and the clothes are PERFECTION! They all have such individual style but it works together too. All the girls look amazing but I especially love Jade and Perrie's outfits and makeup. They both have quite natural eyes with beautiful lashes and bright purple lips. Perrie's hat...the hat post....yes! So if you have not seen the video or have no idea who these lovely ladies are, look them up!! Also, watch the music video! :)

Are you  a fan of Little Mix? Do you have a favorite outfit worn by one of the members? Or do you have a favorite girl group? Tweet pics to @NEPlainJane . I'm thinking of doing a girl group post because I am quite a fan of girl groups and I would love to have your favorites in it as well. Hope your days are well! Xx

Winter Wardrobe Wishlist

Hello everyone! Now I know some of you may be reading the title of this post and thinking "Winter wardrobe wishlist?!? Fall just started and you already want to move onto winter??" No, no, that is not the case at all. I just like to plan ahead and many of these pieces can be worn during the fall too! So no, I am not trying to rush fall because I love this time of year!! So now that that's taken care of we can properly begin. H&M is by far my favorite place to shop and quite honestly the only place where I know I can ALWAYS find something. It's affordable and on trend. (Everything on the Wishlist is under $35) Their range of styles is one of my favorite things about them. You can find something super edgy or super girly or plain and simple. I have been really loving their stuff (sorry for lack of a more professional sounding word) lately, it keeps getting better and better. The items I chose are pretty simple because I'm trying to get things that are versatile and will go with a lot of different things. I haven't been the best at that in the past which leads to things hardly being worn because they only go with one other thing. So below I'll give a little description as to what they are, what I would pair it with, and a link:)

Starting on the left,
Jersey Leggings: Everyone needs a good pair of leggings. I like these because they have a bit of a sheen. I would put them with an oversized t-shirt, or a big chunky sweater. For shoes, a cute pair of boots or sneakers could dress them up or down.

2-pack gloves: I think it's nice to have a pair of gloves to keep in your coats pockets. These come in a
few different colors. The ones I chose are black and camel. The black pair has little studs on the front.

Flat boots: These boots are what I would call a mute brown with black soles and black elastic. They are nice because again they are simple and can go with many outfits. I would put them with skinny jeans in black or a dark wash and a nice sweater.

Knit hat: I love cute hats for when it gets cold out. This one is a cable knit in dark gray and has a faux fur bobble on the end.

Knitted tube scarf: Last year infinity scarves became my new favorite thing. I like wearing scarves over tops but could never get the "tie" ones to look how I wanted. Enter in the infinity scarf and all my problems were solved. This one is a cream color and could go with pretty much anything.

Knit hat: Another cute knit hat. This one is also darker and has studs all over it.

Hello October

I realize that I have already said this, but I cannot believe it is already October! Time for sitting in a cozy sweater, whilst sipping a warm beverage (tea, coffee, hot chocolate, whichever you prefer) and eating a pumpkin spice muffin, listening to Autumn Leaves on repeat, and reading your favorite blogs;) Ok, so not necessarily the last part, maybe switch that out with sitting by a nice fire outside or watching a movie, but none the less, fall is a great time of year!

You get to switch over from wearing shorts to skinny jeans or leggings and from sandals to ankle boots. There are many reasons why I love the fall. The most obvious for me is the change in fashion. By the time September comes around I feel ready for a change, and a bit tired of the things I have been wearing during the summer months. Also, pumpkin spice muffins become appropriate to eat:) I personally am not a big coffee person but you can get pumpkin spice lattes. Fall also brings chilly nights which are the best. It's not completely freezing to make you go numb but there's enough of a chill in the air to cause rosey cheeks:) In all, I think fall is a pretty fantastic time. Do you love fall? What are your favorite things about it? Let me know in the comments, also don't forget to check out @NEPlainJane on twitter and give it a follow! I'd love to have feedback and twitter is a great way for me to get that. If you have any pretty fall pictures that you have seen online or took yourself feel free to tweet them to me! I'd love to do a post of all the pictures! Have a good fall!
